The Oratory RAW Review Crew: March 1st 2010

Krizbii: A very late RRC this week, it’s only a week after the show, but it’s taken me this long to watch it after problems with my DVD and a lack of time.
HBK/HHH Promo
Solid promo by Shawn to set up a fantastic one by Hunter. He doesn’t put people over on the mic very often, but this was a great way to build up HBK as someone who really did have what it takes to beat Taker, and set up a logical match for later in the show.
Guest Hosts
I’ve never seen anything of Cheech and Chong and didn’t find them funny, I don’t even know which one is which. I can always tell the difference between the Bellas these days though, so guest host segments have taught me something.
Orton vs DiBiase
Randy is clearly the face in this feud, but his slow, calculated style is much more suited to working as a heel and limits how good his matches with Rhodes and DiBiase can be. If his face turn lasts beyond this Legacy angle, he’ll need to tweak his style a little, although hopefully not so much that it wrecks his character.
More Cheech and Chong
The Lucky Charms stuff was stupid, but the look on Regal’s face and Masters talking with Kelly’s voice were quite amusing.
Swagger vs Marella
The epic feud these two had before the Rumble was the last time I remember seeing Swagger, so I’m not sure why he suddenly deserves a Money in the Bank spot. It’s a shame Santino has been demoted to one-minute jobber again, he’d made real progress (to three-minute jobber, but it was still an improvement).
Cena/Batista Confrontation
Fantastic promo by Batista, because everything he said was completely believable. It’s funny that he mentioned the Attitude era, this seemed to be trying to recreate a kind of Rock/Austin feel. Batista managed to come up with a hybrid Rock/Austin outfit with added chains, but Cena was just Cena. Considering how Cena claims to be the first guy to show up and the last one to leave, he often never comes out while the fans are chanting his name. If feuds were decided on promos, Batista wins easily.
MVP vs Ryder
It’s a shame that Ryder has been put on Raw, he’d probably have had a chance to shine in Smackdown’s midcard and Rosa would be more suited to babysitting Rey’s kids than wasting Tiffany on it, the last thing Raw needs is more divas who can’t wrestle. The only interesting thing about the match was how short it was, MVP winning is fine, but at least make it look like a fight.
Kelly vs Gail vs Eve vs Maryse vs Jillian vs Alicia
It wasn’t a bad match as pillowfights go, if you ignore that everyone except Gail seemed to take about one move then stay down. Alicia’s slippers were the real winners.
Vince/Bret Promo
McMahon’s cockiness knowing that Bret couldn’t fight him was great. Hopefully they reveal that Bret’s injury was faked before Wrestlemania, if he waits until the night for the reveal, it’ll come across kind of heelish.
DX vs ShowMiz
Since it’s supposed to be like showbiz, I’m not sure why WWE don’t include the W on their graphics (Shomiz would surely be Miz and Funaki), although King doesn’t seem to know that’s the team’s name anyway. The match was OK, but the ending was stupid, a picture of Taker shouldn’t distract HBK for that long. I’m not sure what Sheamus’s motivation for attacking Triple H was supposed to be, presumably he was unhappy that hanging out with Trips didn’t get him a title match at Mania after all.
Final Thoughts
Not a lot of wrestling, even if you include the pillowfight, as this was another promo-heavy show. The guest hosts were bad, but the talking was really good, a similar theme to last show, just lacking a little bit of ring action.
