Oratory NewsCenter: The Links - Week Four

by: The Oratory Staff
on: 7/27/2002 12:27 pm est

As you have seen in the last three weeks, what we do here is introduce you to the author, share their pertinent information with you, allow them to introduce their column to you and then, most importantly, give you the link to that particular column. See, we’re all about giving here at the Oratory and since there’s a lot of stuff in here I’m going to give myself a glass full of shut up juice.

Without further Apu, here are the columns…

A Mark's View

A Mark's View #75: Wrestling as Applied to Life
Normally, rather than writing straight up humor columns, I try to inject my regular columns with a little humor here and there. This one, however, was fully intended to be humorous, a type of column which I really don't write all that often. In the second situation I list, you can obviously tell that it was written during the NFL playoffs before the Super Bowl, but nevertheless the situation still applies. Read it HERE.

Being Frank #30: The RAW Fallacy
Ah, the Frank Lee “Fallacy”. Started off as a joke and it stuck. See, when I watch the same wrestling shows that you watch, I see some things a bit different then everyone else does. It’s not my fault; it’s just the way that I am. The action, the fans, the commercial breaks, etc., all may be touched upon in any Fallacy. The thing is, these entire recap columns are written either while I’m watching the show, or right after, and by right after, I mean right after. Nothing gets by Frank Lee, and I’m assuming these columns were the reason I won the award of “Most Rambling” this past January in our inaugural Oratory Awards. Read it HERE.

Adam Karabel
Wrestler Analysis and Review

guitar_god12@hotmail.com

This was a column I wrote about the top 10 Wrestlers of the year 2001, based on each individuals accomplishments and in-ring abilities over that year. Read it HERE.

The Maverick - The Best of the Mav: Triple H Top 10 Greatest Matches
Truth is, though I spent over twelve hours writing and researching my Triple H bio, the finish product though exact and precise, was a bit too heavy on facts. However, what gained the most attention of my three part Hunter Hearts Helmsley bio was unsurprisingly, the Top Ten Match list where my opinions shined through. A carnival column carried by the tried and tested ‘Top 10’ gimmick. Read it HERE.

The Prodigal Sons
This column concerns the many facets, problems, and blessings that come along with being tagged a "prodigy" in wrestling. Some people take it and run, while others get eaten alive. Read it HERE.

Xavier Von Erck
The Xavier Files

angrygerman@angrygerman.com

A Response about Racism, Russo and Mitchell
At the time I was writing for Russo.org, this is a response to a Mitchell's take that was shoddy and easily refuted. First printed in April of 2001. Read it HERE.

eXcavation
Sean Waltman, aka X-Pac, it seems you either love him or hate him. I decided on this occasion to ride the fence on this one and decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. Read it HERE.

The Degenerate Showcase 56: In Vince we trust
Personally, one of my favourite column subjects is to attack Uncle Vince. Whether it is on a professional or personal level, he is my no1 target for venting my spleen. However, this column is neither a rant nor an attack on McMahon, but rather a critical look on how his management of the company has led the WWF to it's current position. Even today, the column still hits the mark. Read it HERE.

The Booker T. Debate
The Book has been held down in the WWF for a good seven or eight months now, with no end in sight. A majority of 'net fans schill us on how Booker T is God, so I just analyze it all, and see if the debate is even worthy. Read it HERE.

Waranhayt
The Waranhayt Effect

waranhayt@yahoo.com

The Odds & Sods
The "Odds & Sods" are a column format that appears regularly within 'the Waranhayt Effect'; basically they are a vehicle to tackle a variety of topics that come to mind from watching a single week of WWF programming. While there have been many of these columns, this particular one sparked the most feedback, with one section being devoted to the analogies existing between the "InVasion" storyline and the movie trilogy "Star Wars". Seven to the Fore
What I'd like to think of as the first in a string of really good columns. During January of 2000, the proverbial shit hit the fan in WCW, over the course of one long week, as rumor had it seven of the promotion's biggest major stars were on their way to the WWF. We wouldn't know to call this group 'the Radicals' until a few weeks later. Hear my take on the proceedings HERE.

Just My Opinion

TO BE A HULKAMANIAC AGAIN
A few Smackdowns ago, when Vince McMahon announced the Austin/Rock v. NOW Handicap match, I was thinking "Well, that might be good for some ratings. Have the NWO fight the WWF's biggest heels on the RAW prior to Wrestlemania. We'll have a big DQ "schmoz" finish, and the babyfaces will get their traditional pre-PPV beatdown." The last thing I thought I'd see was a clean pinfall finish. And the VERY LAST THING I expected to see was Hollywood Hogan taking the Rock out with the old school Boot/Legdrop combo. But I'll tell you what....I LOVED IT! What? An internet columnist claiming that he liked something about pro wrestling? Believe it! I was a Hulkamaniac from way back, and I've been itching to get that old feeling back that I used to get watching wrestling on TV. To read this column, click HERE.

Biography of Shawn Michaels
This is probably the column that I became “known” for on the internet. It’s a biography, albeit a biased one from an HBK fan, about the man that is arguably the greatest in ring performer that the business has ever seen. Yes, it is an arguable point and in this column you can read about why I think Shawn Michaels deserves such high praise. It was originally written in the summer of ’99 and later updated in 2000. You can read part one HERE. Part two is HERE.

That's all. See ya next weekend for the last week of the links.
